    Gao Weigang wins the prize of Art Futures at ART HK 2011

    On May 26th, 2011, artist Gao Weigang, represented artist at Magician Space Beijing was named the winner of "Art Futures” at ART HK 11. Gao Weigang would receive a prize of USD 25,000 donated by Lane Crawford.

    Gao Weigang was born in Heilongjiang Province, China and now lives in Beijing. The work he presented in "Art Futures" titled Intuition (2011), with the tiger skin as the core concept ─ a symbol of power and authority in the East, a metaphor for an imaginary enemy.

    Hong Kong International Art Fair 11 (ART HK 11) is a title event in the international art scene, is the annual, premier contemporary art exhibition in Hong Kong.

    "Art Futures" is a new section started in the third year of ART HK, where young galleries and works from young artists around the world are presented. This year it has been further expanded, showcasing 45 galleries from 23 countries.

    European galleries presented in "Art Futures" include Josh Lilley Gallery from London, Mother's Tankstation from Berlin, Charim Ungar Contemporary Berlin, CUC from Dublin, Galerie Christian Lethert from Cologne, Torri from Paris, Francesca Minini from Milan, Rotwand from Zurich, Galeria Marta Cervera from Madrid, EDS Galeria from Mexico, and Mendes Wood from San Paulo.

    Asian Galleris include Magician Space from Beijing, Take Ninagawa from Japan, Platform3 from Bandung, Tristian Koenig from Melbourne, Exhibit 320, Seven Art Limited from New Delhli, Traffic from Dubai and NON from Turkey.

    The Director of ART HK - Magnus Renfrew said that "Art Futures" provided a great chance for the visitors to see the new artists and galleries from all over the world.

    This year's prize of "Art Futures" was sponsored by Lane Crawford. The vice President of Lane Crawford - Joanna Gunn said that she was really excited to cooperate with the top class art fair and it was the honor of Lane Crawford to support young talented international artists.
The jury was composed of several well-known art authorities, includes Lars Nittve, executive of M+, Hans Ulrich Obrist, project director of Serpentine Gallery in London, Elaine W. Ng, the chief editor and publisher of Art Asia Pacific Magazine.

    ART HK 11 was sponsored by Deutsche Bank, and took place from May 26th to 29th in Hong Kong Exhibition Center. There were 260 galleries from 38 countries to be presented there.
